Spring Soiree 2024 at Red Lion Books
April 11th, 2024 at 6pm with author hosts

Our bookshop parties are the perfect party because we are all home in bed, with a good book by 8pm

This is our first soiree of 2024

The party starts at 6pm and will be hosted by guest authors. Between them they will run the infamous tombola, chat with you informally (about their new books) and hand out the goody bags.

Your ticket includes shopping discount on the night, tombola prize and a goody bag.  There will be a complementary welcome drink on arrival.

These events are easy to attend solo or with a friend and will be across the ground floor and basement making it accessible to wheelchair users

JUNE 1940. As Hitler prepares to invade Britain, a secret office hidden away in Whitehall is catapulted into a frenzy of activity.. Aware of the Nazis’ obsession with the occult, the British Secret Service sets out to exploit this potential weakness in the enemy’s high command. Twenty-two-year-old Daphne Devine is performing on the London stage as assistant to magician Jonty Trevelyan, when the secret service calls. Daphne and Jonty find themselves far from the glitz and glamour of the theatre, deep inside the lower levels of Wormwood Scrubs prison. Here they join secret ranks of astrologers, illusionists and other theatre performers co-opted for counter espionage missions. Daphne soon realises she must risk everything if there is any chance of saving her country
Charlotte Vassell
Her first book The Other Half was loved by many authors, such as Janice Hallett, Denise Mina, Erin Kelly and Harriet Tyce. THE IN CROWD, published on 4th April is both fun, witty, sardonic, and super smart and clever – Charlotte addresses meaty themes such as power, complicity, race and class. She’s also been to drama school, so feels prepared to run our tombolo 😉
