Wednesday 10th December 6 pm – 8 pm.
Come and meet Wivenhoe artist and illustrator, Richard Allen – the man behind the new exhibition in our downstairs gallery area which features bird prints and paintings.
Refreshments will be available.
The exhibition continues through to the end of January 2015.
Starting as a freelance illustrator in advertising, publishing and newspapers, Richard’s work has gradually drifted towards his main interest of birds and wildlife – especially after winning “British Birds – Bird Illustrator of the year” in 1993. Now living in Wivenhoe, the bird rich estuaries and marshes of the Essex coast have provided an endless source of inspiration and fuelled a passion for field-sketching, filling countless sketchbooks with observations of wildlife. This essential field experience has proved most useful when illustrating bird identification guides including, “Concise Birds of the Western Palearctic”(Oxford University Press).
‘Coastal Birds’ is a recently published book containing 18 linocuts of birds commonly found on the coast and estuary with descriptions – a perfect gift!
The exhibition features many of the original prints from this book as well as originals of plates from bird identification guides.
