Red Lion Books in association with Roman River Festival is thrilled to have Andrew Phillips at the shop to talk about Colchester in 1918 as the was drew to a close. Few towns equalled Colchester’s contribution to the Great War. As headquarters of Eastern Command it was the front line of the front line, supplying from its garrison many of the 1914 Expeditionary Force that stopped Germany on the Marne. In this talk by historian and author, Andrew Phillips hear the importance Colchester played during World War I and the toll it took on the town and its citizens.
Andrew Phillips is a retired lecturer, writer and leading Colchester historian. He has written many books about the town’s history including most recently ‘Colchester in the Great War’.
